L’Oréal Paris Elnett So Sleek Hairspray

Whenever I wash my hair and complete my styling, I am always left with frizz which ruins my look. I’ve always been a fan of Elnett so I was pleased to find they had a hair spray that helps control frizz called L’Oréal Paris Elnett So Sleek Hairspray.

Elnett So Sleek

The reason I adore Elnett is that while other strong hold hairsprays leave you with a hard, crisp texture on your hair, Elnett provides you with great hold while still leaving a smooth and silky finish. This particular spray has another plus point which is that it’s lightly rose scented so my hair smells lovely all day. It’s such a light spray that no matter how much you spray, with just a stroke of a brush it disappears while still taming frizz prone areas. I seperate sections of my hair and spray the So Sleek hairspray directly onto roots (at a 30cm distance as recommended) to give me some volume. The product does not weigh down my hair at all and just as it says, I’m left with a sleek look with no flyaways.  It’s ideal for hair up style like a high ponytail or loose wave look. I only use the spray after using heated styling tools as a Finishing Hairspray but Elnett also has a heat defence range that can be used prior to using heated styling tools. I highly recommended this hairspray it’s my favourite!

L’Oréal Elnett So Sleek Hairspray can be purchased at
Boots for £3.98 (200ml)
Feel Unique for £7.51 (400ml)

Bellapierre Mineral Foundation Review (Ideal for all skin tones and acne prone skin)

The product I’m going to write about is my ultimate must have. It is called Bellapierre and it is a 5 in 1 Compact Mineral Foundation. The 5 properties the product can be used as are a Concealer, SPF, Foundation, Finishing Powder and Setting Powder. The foundation is great because it is good for your skin since the minerals allow your skin to breathe and also gives great coverage if like me your prone to spots or acne scarring. The product I use is the compact version but it’s also available in a loose powder version. What I love is that it comes with a great colour chart so it’s easier to find a shade that fits every race. My shade is Maple.

Bellapierre colour chart

It’s a little pricey at £39.99 but I find that it lasts long since I tend not to need to reapply since the coverage is so effective. It blends in with my skin colour effortlessly. I occasionally breakout with spots which leave me with acne scarring which I hate. So the way I use this product is that I apply a little powder directly onto the scar first as a concealer. Then I apply the whole foundation over it. It really covers the scarring and blends in very effectively without causing irritation to sensitive skin. I’m always self conscious about acne scars left behind so I love how much coverage I get with this foundation. I’ve found products I have used in the past left a cakey texture or greyish colour but this works well with my skin tone. I have been using this foundation for years and it is my favourite product.

The Bellapierre Compact Mineral Foundation is available direct from the website http://www.bellapierre.co.uk

You can also order it for £34.99  from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk

I’m based in London so it’s available in store at House of Fraser.

Tresemme Heat Style Primer Spray

Protecting my hair before applying heat is very important to me. I use styling tools often such as a Blowdryer and Straightner so it’s important that I look after my hair the best I can to prevent long term damage. I’ve tried different heat defence products but the problem I’ve found is that they weigh down my hair and I lose volume at times. However, I decided to try a product I found from Superdrug called Tresemme Heat Style Primer Spray.

tresemme-1

This product is extremely affordable at just £1.50 so I thought why not especially since the bottle is a good size too. I sprayed some of the product on my damp hair after I briefly towel dried it. I brushed it through and then started blow drying. Once I was finished I was impressed with how light the product felt since my hair felt smooth and not weighed down. The product suggests to spray individual sections if using on dry hair. Some days I just air dry my hair. Once dry I separate into 4 sections and spray the primer onto each section and then begin straightening once it dries. I’m really happy with this product and will continue using it as my main heat defence styling product.

Great Lipsticks for Indian, Olive, Medium and Dark Skintones

The make up item I find the most difficult to buy are lipsticks! I always find shades to be too dark or too light on my indian skin so I’m constantly changing brands in hope of finding my perfect match. So while I’m continuously going through trial and error, the good thing is I find some great ones so here are my top lipsticks picks for Medium to Dark skin.

MAC Cosmetics (Taupe) £15.50
 MAC Lipstick

This lipstick is a beautiful warm shade and is an ideal nude lipstick for those with a medium or olive skin tone. I love it because the texture is Matte and I prefer this to shiny or glossy lipsticks since those ones sometimes make my skin look washed out. The lipstick lasts very long so I don’t have to constantly reapply and is one of my favourite nude shades.

Yves Saint Laurent Babydoll Kiss and Blush (Shade 10 Nude Insolent) £28.50
YSL

This one is interesting since its designed for both lips and cheeks but I only use it on lips. This is another warm nude shade ideal for medium and dark skin tones. I like its versatility as it Is very buildable. I can apply it lightly to give myself a soft and natural daytime look but can apply more heavily for an intense and sultry evening wear look (it would look great with a Smokey eye look). The applicator is nice and easy to use as the colour glides effortlessly onto lips and provide a matte finish.

KIKO LIPSTICKS
Kiko-Unlimited-Stylo-600-2

Kiko Unlimited Stylo (Shade 13 Cocoa) £6.90
1443100536856
This is a perfect matte lipstick and a great nude shade for medium and dark skin. It’s the best affordable nude shade from my list and I highly recommend it. I wasn’t sure if it would be too dark but it is a nice subtle pink with a brown undertone. It really lasted all day with no need to reapply. I sometimes have dry lips but the texture is really soft and creamy so my lips felt moisturised and smooth. It is also  hypoallergenic and paraben free so another plus point.

Kiko Unlimited Stylo (Shade 02 Pearly Vintage Rose) £6.90
1443100515900
I was looking for an everyday subtle pink shade and this lipstick fits the criteria perfectly. As mentioned above, the texture is creamy and soft whilst still providing a semi matte finish. It is a soft pink colour that contrasts beautifully with warmer skin tones. It’s ideal for day wear and looks pretty and natural but still remains vibrant and noticeable.

00_SMART_LIPSTICK_001443100786806

Kiko Smart Lipstick (Shade 912 Crimson Red) £3.90
I picked this colour for when I want to be a bit more daring and want my lipstick to be the focus point of my look. It is vibrant but I have to say it’s more pink than red. It stood out a lot on my skin and I am normally hesistant about picking strong colours. This is because I have small lips so lighter shades make my lips look bigger but this shade despite being a deeper colour, still complimented my features and since it was more pink than red, it made my lips look bigger. This colour is great for day or night and is really affordable at such a great price.

Kiko Smart Lipstick (Shade 913 Rosewood) £3.90
This is a nice casual lipstick for everyday wear. It’s really perfect if you just want a hint of colour for a soft natural look. It is is a good nude shade and leaves lips feeling moisturised.

Sleek MakeUp Face Contour Kit in Medium (Ideal for Indian Skin tone)

I am a newbie when it comes to contouring but I wanted to give it a try. I decided to try the Contour Kit from Sleek MakeUp because I liked that it had three different kits designed for Light, Medium and Dark skin.

50390502-1_4-1$_35

I picked the Medium Shade and the Medium kit is ideal for the Indian Skin tone.  It comes with two shades, one to sculpt and one to highlight. I really liked how the texture of the darker sculpting powder was matte because I felt this worked better on my skin since I have oily skin naturally. The powders are highly pigmented so a little bit makes a big difference. I blended it with a big fluffy brush since I felt this helped blend the colours more seamlessly. The highlight  is a warmer peachy tone when applied on skin which is great since it works so well with my natural warm indian skin tone. I was afraid the powders would look mismatched and uneven but the colours actually blended wonderfully together, leaving my cheekbones, jawline and nose beautifully contoured. The kit lasted hours and remained matte throughout the day. This is a great kit for those of you like me who are new to contouring.

No7 Lash Impact Mascara Review

Today I want to write about my favourite Mascara and its one I highly recommend. It is the No7 Lash Impact Mascara which is available in Boots and is priced at £13.50.

31zV9QMvnPL

The mascara comes in two colours both Brown and Black and with just two coats, it creates an intense volume. I have constantly changed mascara in the past for reasons such as clumping or wearing off too quickly or making my lashes feel heavy. However, I have no such problem with this Mascara. It provides a great amount of volume on my lashes while still feeling weightless. I think the fact that only one or two coats being needed is the reason it feels light which is ideal especially if you are wearing mascara all day. Another thing I love about it, is that it dries quickly so it’s easy to apply even when your in a rush. This is a must buy in my opinion and I think my search for a great Mascara is finally over.

No7 Lash Impact Mascara is available for £13.50 instore in Boots

My Top 5 favourite Blushers – Ideal for Indian, Tan and Olive Skin

I really love Blushers. It adds the finishing touch to my make up and leaves me with a youthful radiant touch of colour. However, finding a blusher shade  to suit my skin tone is difficult since they are either too pink so it looks completely unmatched or its too dark and looks more like bronzer! After a lot of trial and error I finally found a few fantastic ones that are great for Indian, tan and olive skin. So here are my top 5.

bb_smoosh_E4PE02_415x415_0bb_prod_E4PE_415x415_0
The first one is from Bobbi Brown in shade Tawny. This is a wonderful Blusher, the texture is smooth and glides onto cheeks effortlessly. There is no shimmer so you get a nice matte finish. It is priced at £19.50 but since it’s highly pigmented a little goes a long way. This is an ideal blusher if you are looking for a subtle natural but noticeable look.
88467442237748841072279582
The next one is great for everyday wear since its so subtle and light. It’s called Rimmel London Lasting Finish Mono Blush and it is excellent value for money being priced at £3.99. The shade I recommend is called Live Pink. It has a mild shimmer and is easily buildable because of its light texture. I found this blusher to be long lasting and I don’t have to apply too much for it to be noticeable.

My next recommendation is a Mineralize Blush from MAC in the shade Gleeful priced at £22.00. This blusher is very versatile since if applied lightly, it’s great for day wear but if applied with a heavier hand it can create a beautiful evening wear look. It has a mild shimmer and enhances cheekbones so I really love the effect this blusher has on my skin. It is very pigmented so will last ages before you need to buy a new one, so despite the price tag being high it a worthwhile investment

3052503757438_Marketing_Straighton_450_450_80_int
Next is the Bourjois Little Round Pot Blusher in the shade Rose Ambre priced at £7.99. The texture of this blusher is baked and its a fine, light powder which makes it easy to blend into skin. It’s a nice peachy pink shade so is ideal for medium to dark skin tone. This blusher also has a soft scent of roses which is really nice and comes with a brush included which is handy for when your on the go. I’d highly recommend this blusher.

My final favourite is L’Oreal True Match Blush in shade Rosewood priced at £6.99. The powder has a silky texture which feels smooth when applied to skin. It gives a healthy, warm glow and enhances the cheekbones. I found it easy to blend this blusher  and it lasted all day.
So that’s my Top 5!  These blusher are all fantastic and great for medium to dark skin.

Oily Hair Solution- Neutrogena T/Gel Shampoo Greasy Hair

My hair is quite thick in texture naturally but the problem I have is that it tends to get greasy quickly. It is also a really long length, so it’s tiresome washing it daily. I needed to find a solution and I heard about T/Gel shampoo from Neutrogena before but this time I came across one specifically for greasy hair.

neutrogena T/Gel

I was expecting a strong medicated smell but it was pleasantly mild which was good, and after washing the shampoo off it did not leave a strong scent. I was concerned my hair would be knotted and tangled but the shampoo left my hair feeling soft and tangle free. I found I did not need to use conditioner which is a positive since conditioner tends to weigh my hair down and my hair was grease free. The shampoo is a great solution for greasy hair as my hair felt clean and fresh after use and I no longer need to wash my hair daily.

Neutrogena T/Gel Shampoo Greasy Hair is priced at £6.99 and is available in store at Boots

The Body Shop – Moringa Range

I love wearing perfume however, unfortunately I suffer from travel sickness and have found the scent of perfume overwhelming during car journeys and it makes my symptoms worse. I decided I wanted to find an alternative to regular perfumes and decide to try a Body Mist from The Body Shop. I love The Body Shop since they have an array of beautifully scented products that feel great even on my sensitive skin. I decided on the Moringa Body Mist.

moringa mist

It has a delicate and light floral fragrance which I felt would be ideal since I wanted to avoid strong scents during travel. The mist is priced at £7.50 and I was pleasantly surprised that the fragrance lasted quite long without needing to reapply too often. This mist is a perfect alternative to regular perfume if like me you suffer from travel sickness. I loved this spray so much I decided to buy the Moringa Body Milk aswell.

moringa milk

It’s the same light fragrance, but the texture is also light and absorbs really quickly into skin without feeling oily but still leaving skin feeling moisturised. If you have very dry skin however, I would personally recommend the Moringa Body Butter

moringa butter

This is equally a great product but the texture is thicker making it ideal for dry skin.

All three products are available in store at The Body Shop or from the website
On a side note, I’ve tried a lot of travel sickness medicine which have had no effect but I highly recommend one called Kwells which is available at the Pharmacy Counters at Boots and Supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsburys.

Smashbox Studio Skin 15 hour wear Hydrating Foundation

I have always been nervous with regards to using liquid foundation for two reasons, one is the fact I have oily skin so it was a concern my skin would feel greasy and reason two was about finding a colour that matches, since Indian skin tones are hard to find shades for. However I heard about an oil free foundation from Smashbox so I decided to write about my experience using Smashbox Studio Skin 15 hour wear Hydrating Foundation.

smashbox

I went in store to Boots and I was colour matched to shade 3.2. The product is quite expensive at £29.00 but the size of the bottle is quite good and you only need a pump or 2 which is enough for your whole face. I found the colour looked a little more yellow on my skin than I’d want ideally but it blended in better when I used less of the product for a lighter coverage. The texture is light and did not feel heavy on my skin and set on my skin with a matte finish. The oil control was excellent throughout the day and suited my sensitive and naturally oily skin. I’ve used a brush to apply the foundation before, however I’ve found it blended better when I used my fingers to apply it. I really like this product and I’m glad I tried it. It gives me long lasting coverage and my skin looks hydrated while still remaining oil free.

Fade Out Original Brightening Day Cream SPF15

My skin is good for the most part but occasionally I break out with spots. The worst part are not the spots themselves but the acne scarring they leave behind. I’m often left with dark marks on my skin. The product I’ve mentioned before like Bellapierre is great at hiding the scars but I wanted to look for a more permanent solution to get rid of the scarring and discoloration for good. I decided to try a cream I noticed when shopping called Fade Out Original Brightening Day Cream SPF15.

Fade Out Brightening Cream

The cream is quite thick in texture and since I have naturally oily skin I only apply the cream directly onto my scars as oppose to putting it on all over my face. I’ve been using it for a few of months now and have really noticed a difference. My skin tone looks more even and the acne scars look less dark. Like most products, there’s no instant effect or transformation. You need be patient to see results and for me this product is slowly improving my scars so I recommend it.

Gosh Velvet Touch Prime’n Set Primer and Mattifying Setting Powder

As I’ve mentioned before I have Oily skin. It’s tough as the day goes on to try and maintain a nice matte finish especially on particularly warm days. Thankfully there are now wonderful products out there called finishing/setting powders which are designed to help set your make up and complete your look. The powders are translucent so can be universally used by all skin tones and are meant to be light in texture just to set your make up to finish your look. I was out purchasing my favourite eyeliner from Gosh (mentioned in previous post https://southindianmakeup.wordpress.com/2015/09/09/gosh-cosmetics-velvet-touch-eye-liner-and-eye-shadows/) and came across a setting powder and thought I would give it a try. It is called Gosh Velvet Touch Prime’n Set Primer and Mattifying Setting powder and I purchased it for £6.99 but it is usually £9.99.

setting powder

Even though its a two in one product I personally do not use it as a Primer and only use it as a setting powder. The pot comes with a sieve that you can rotate which is handy since it prevents spills or too much powder coming out.  So once I completed by normal foundation routine I lightly dipped by brush into the powder and blended it over my skin. It blended in easily with my skin without affecting my foundation or making it appear cakes or patchy and instead, gave me a matte polished look. Throughout the day I didn’t need to reapply my makeup and it controlled shine completely. I highly recommend this Setting/Finishing powder since its a great price and actually works well and lasts all day.

Beauty UK Eyebrow Kit

Okay so we all know what they say about eyebrows, you know how they’re meant to be sister’s and not twins. Well let’s just say mine are more like distant cousins or maybe not even related at all! Eyebrows make such an impact on the face so they are important so I had to find a solution to make my brows presentable. Thankfully I found it, it’s a wonderful product from Beauty UK called the High Brow Eyebrow Kit. This kit completely transformed my eyebrows. It contains 3 different shades to suit different skin tones, I personally use the darkest shade, and the kit comes with a double ended applicator and tweezers. The applicator is small, one side has a rounded applicator and an angled one at the other end. The length of the applicator might not suit some people so you may want to find a longer one but I personally find it easy to use and find that I am able to apply the powder in precise way without it taking too much time. It also comes with a colourless wax but I’ve found the powder lasts long for me without needing to use the wax.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette

I have small eyes so I wanted to find an eyeshadow with a more neutral shade to make my eyes look bigger. I also wanted a more neutral shade for everyday wear for a more subtle and natural look. The issue was that all the shades I came across were far too light on my skin. I looked around and came across the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette.

Urban_Decay_Naked_Basics_Palette_1391690810_main

There were two options. This original palette or the new 2nd edition. I picked the original one as it had more yellow tones which I felt would blend with my skin better whilst still being noticeable. It also had a vastly contrasting black shade which I love for when I do an evening Smokey eye look. The eyeshadows are really long lasting and blend in with each other very effortlessly when incorporating more than one shade on the lid. I add more than one shade to make my eyes appear more open and bigger and I can do this with these tones without it looking heavy or overdone.

The Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette is priced at £23.00. It’s subtle enough to use daily but still lasts long.
